What to Include in Your Product Drawing

Prepare a clear drawing and specification so that covers, frames and drainage products can be reviewed accurately.

01 Identify the Product and Revision

A useful product drawing starts with an unambiguous reference. Include the product name, drawing number, revision and measurement units. If several sizes are required, give each size its own reference and quantity. This makes later quotation and order discussions easier to track.

Explain whether the drawing describes a new product, a replacement component or a complete cover-and-frame assembly. For replacement work, include photographs showing the existing seating surfaces and the surrounding installation.

02 Show the Interfaces

For a manhole cover, include the clear opening, cover dimensions, outside frame dimensions and installation depth. Show the relevant cross sections, seating areas and fixing details. For a drainage grate, show the grate, supporting frame and channel interface separately.

Mark critical dimensions and tolerances explicitly. If a dimension has not yet been confirmed, identify it as provisional. A supplier should not have to guess which measurements control the fit.

03 Add the Written Requirements

A drawing should be accompanied by the project specification. State the required material and load class, together with any finish, surface pattern, locking, sealing or marking requirements. Include the test or inspection documents requested by your project team.

04 Send a Complete Inquiry
